How many gallons of paint to paint 1600 square feet interior of house?

Please don't tear this question up, I am looking for somebody with experience of a house of similar size. Also, I will be painting all of the ceilings. One 1600 square ft home may have more actual wall space to be painted than another 1600 sq ft home.





However I'm assuming that you realize this.





I'll answer your question as you wish, however you will not be on the money with your paint supplies, you will either be under or over.


To get the amount of paint that you need to paint the home, you need to go room by room and get your measurements.





Here we go, as you asked:





If the 1600 is the number that you want an answer for , then your square footage of your walls = 12,800.


12,800 / 200 = 64


Add 1600 for celings


You need 72 gallons of paint.

It is the interior WALL sq footage you need to measure...not the interior floor measurement..





1. Measure the linear foot of wall space..if an interior wall, measure both sides....





2. Multiply by 8, the height of the ceiling...





3. Add to that the 1600 sq ft of ceiling area..





4. that is how many sq ft of primer you need...if your walls are really bad...2 coats of primer may be needed...





5. Double you answer form 3, that is how much paint you need...I always use 2 coats...





6. If it's close...buy an extra can...





7. Less waste if you use all the same color....





8. Pre-mix all of the same colors together a little first...each can will be slightly different..even if they are the same color...





Hope it helps...your paint store will tell you how much sq ft a gallon of paint will cover..there is some difference..
Is this total square ft of floor(livable house space), or actual wall/ceiling space that needs to be painted?
Your probably looking at about 15- 20 gallons for two coats. Start out with less because almost all colors now are custom tint and are not returnable. You can always buy more if you need it. Or just do the math measure the room length times width times height. Average 10 X12 room 8 ft high including ceiling 472 sq. ft divided by 350 sq. ft per gallon about 1.5 gallons for one coat.
once you measure all the walls and come up with the figure, a gallon of paint will do about 350 square feet. When figuring out square footage, remember that length times width is square footage. That would need to be figured for each wall and ceiling. So if your bedroom is 8x10, each wall is about 8 feet tall, you would be looking at 80 square feet per wall and 80 for the ceiling. Thus your square footage would be about 400 square feet for the room.
Simple , there is , of course 1600 ft of ceiling, and most floor patterns in homes have about 3.5 to 4 times the floor in wall board....so maximum of 1600 X 5= 8000 Sq ft...


divide that by about 300 sq ft per gallon coverage...27 gallons, which sounds like some purchases I have made for such jobs...
