How do you thin paint to use in a paint sprayer?

I need to spray a ceiling in my home and it's not flat. You can't use a roller or a paint brush. How do you thin paint to use in a paint sprayer?
Using a sprayer to spray textured ceilings is the only wau it can be done.

I use a sprayer everyday, the only reason you should need to thin the paint is if

1. You got a too small of tip for the gun and won't allow paint to go thru the tiny opening.

2. The sprayer you got has to small of a pump and cannot handle higher solid contents in some paints.

3. You want it (paint) alot lighter than you actually got.

If it's latex use only water to thin it as paint thinner was made way back when there was only oil based paints, so just because it's called paint thineer don't assume it's for all paints.

Thinner for oil, water for 100% acrylic, i.e......etc...latex/waterbourne/waterba鈥?br>

You will want a 515 or 517 tip on your gun and use whats called a pump sock on syphon hose so you don't crowd the scrren with crap in the bottom of paint. (chunky paint don't spray well)How do you thin paint to use in a paint sprayer?
Your sprayer should have come with a 'viscosity' gauge. If not, get to a reputable store and get one. The paint should probably be about as thin as water, but you really should go with the manufacturer's directions. That info would be with the sprayer instruction book.

BTW, do not spray oil based pain inside. Don't ask how I know.
If its a water based paint (acrylic) water is fine to use, but if it is oil based adding water will stuff it. Oil based paints need to be thinned with a special thinner available from hardware shops or mineral turpentine.
use a little bit of water until the paint flows freely

do not forget to stir
paint thinner dude not water
You can only use paint thinner. Do not use water!! Water will seperate the paint and look like crap. (experience)
