What type is the best paint brush to use for Ceramics Glaze OR Acrylic Paints?

Particularly underglaze? I need to go out and buy some tomorrow, and I figured I'd ask first. I'm looking for a brush that leaves minimal bristle strokes. What type is the best paint brush to use for Ceramics Glaze OR Acrylic Paints?
Definately go for a synthetic nylon brush for acrylic paint. They produce minimal brush strokes, and little to no bristles will fall out. Tip: Never use sable or squirrel hair brushes with acrylic paint, they gunk up and ruin them, (plus they tend to be a little pricey-er and te last thing you want is to ruin a great brush)

Ceramic glaze, i think a sythetic nylon brush would be fine, but you'd jus have to wash is really well after, or get a cheapy one and throw it out after. What type is the best paint brush to use for Ceramics Glaze OR Acrylic Paints?
I've used acrylic before, and glazed ceramics back in high school. If you want something with little bristle strokes, try a soft hair brush like squirrel or whatever else they have now. Maybe a synthetic sable. The quality and shape depend on how you'll use and care for them.

How important is it to prime sheetrock before painting? What about if I am painting over existing paint?

If it is possible to skip priming, I would like to. I am in a bit of a rush. But if it is really that important, I will do it.How important is it to prime sheetrock before painting? What about if I am painting over existing paint?
If you are painting over existing paint (depending what it is), you should simply need to rub it down to provide a smooth surface and a key. If you paint new sheetrock, it is absorbent, so needs at least a coat of watered down emulsion before the finish coat or it will be patchy. It isn't really necessary to use special primer, though it does give a better finish. How important is it to prime sheetrock before painting? What about if I am painting over existing paint?
You should definately prime first. The paper on the sheetrock will absorb a lot of paint meaning at least 2 coats to get good coverage. More for certain colors like reds. With a good primer you'll get a more even color and may just need one coat of paint after saving time and some cash
With all due respect; I've applied multiple thousands of gallons of paint in my time; still work at it; and rarely do I prime even RAW. I do most usually apply two coats of whatever color however. I don't consider it cheating at all, and certainly raw drywall will absorb any agent without a lot of pigment or polymers in it. I like to think of it this way.

';I'm probably going to paint two coats anyway; of a quality substance; so why not apply the first coat in the color already chosen.'; If the paint you use is any good; by the second coat there should be few issues. That said... MUD will appear differently through any first coat, than the raw drywall does; so you may just prime the patch and sand areas. For me it's steps taken not strictly neccesary.

Then there are issues in painting over painted surfaces.

Anything applied over a Gloss/Semi gloss/Latex over Oil, or reverse, should be primed first.

In the end just purchase a decent product; Spend a couple extra dollars per gallon; and in the majority of cases I use ';Satin'; it's less porous than FLAT and allows a better ';cleanability'; after the fact.

Steven Wolf
You don't need to prime over existing paint unless the old paint is dark in color and you want to repaint with a lighter color. Painting over dark paint without a primer will cause the darker paint to bleed through the color of the new lighter paint. It is also very important to paint over existing paint with the right base. First thing you need to do if determine the base of the extisting paint. To do this, use nail polish remover or gas line antifreeze (metholhydrate) and rub on the wall with a rag or paper towel. If the paint comes off you have a latex (acrylic) base, if it stays on you have an oil (alkyd) base. You can use latex over latex, oil over latex, but you can't use latex over oil. Using latex over oil will create a severe bonding issue with the new paint. New sheetrock needs to be primed before painting to create a bond and to eliminate streaking of paint, coverage will be poor without a primer and not using primer will cause the drywall compounds to bleed through the paint. You can purchase a primer that is strictly used for new sheetrock and is less expensive than a primer sealer. Use a primer sealer when repainting a light color over a dark one to eliminate a bleed through of color.
its important to prime on brand new rock to seal the surface from drinking your paint. also, if you already have a strong color because the primer prepares the surface for the next color.
i prime all surfaces before painting myself.watch what type of paint you are painting over you do not want to paint latex over oil paint with out the proper prep work..not once did i see someone paint on drywall without priming.
nobody is in that big of a hurry. Dont skip the primer. Havent you ever heard to always do a good job? If the quality isnt there, then whats the purpose?
Any answer that says ';don't worry about priming'; is a stupid answer. There is a right and wrong way to do any deed in life and not priming bare sheetrock is one of them, gotta laugh because on most of these answers they say to prime over glossy finish or prime a dark color, you need no primer for this deed, gloss finish either lightly sand or wipe down with a liquid deglosser, these are woodwork areas and not whole walls and when it comes to changing an existing color you'll 9 out of 10 ten times use 2 coats of finish, do yourself a favor and do the ';MOST IMPORTANT'; step in painting and use a primer on first coat on any ';NEW'; surface!!! Good luck Les the painter
It's up to you, but I've found that if you are using a color darker than the color of sand, you'll be happier if you did.

Try this:

Take two parts of the same wall receiving the same light. They don't have to be much larger than a 2x2 foot section for each. Prime one part followed by two coats of your final color. On the other section, just apply two coats.

Do they look any different?
I recently had new drywall installed in my home (6 rooms). My drywall finisher (30+ years exper) felt that it was so important to prime the new drywall, he provided 10 gallons of Sherman Williams primer-with the advice to ';BE SURE TO USE PRIMER .';

I understand being in a bit of a hurry, I was too, but you can have your primer tinted to help you along, at no additional charge. The whole process is not inexpensive, don't skip the important stuff now.

What is the best spray paint to buy when spray painting a bike?

I already know how to spray paint my frame without screwing the paint job up, but i don't know which spray paint to use. What is the best spray paint to buy when spray painting a bike?
Krylon is great. I suggest always doing what's called a tack coat. That is when you initially just spray a very light coat and let it sit about 5-10 minutes ( depending on humidity), and when it's just slightly tacky then spray a normal coat. I have used this technique in times when I had no primer available and had no 'runs drips or errors' ( Johnny Bench the baseball player used to say that on a spray paint commercial. I think it was for Krylon). What is the best spray paint to buy when spray painting a bike?
any will work most expensive one in the store when painting spray primer first then your paint or else the paint wont stay on your bike
check out this website.....excellent array of products
krylon, use an airbrush with automotive paint and a few coats for the best results.
use a air bush and use gold and black it is cool as but take the stikers off first

How do i go about painting a design on my crappy old car? What type of paint could I use?

My car is going to die before I ever sell it, and I'm an art student, so I figured it would be fun to stencil a design on my hood. I'm not going to paint the whole car, just a small portion. Could I use spray paint meant for metal you get at home depot? Or would that instantly peel and chip? I know this has to be possible. How do i go about painting a design on my crappy old car? What type of paint could I use?
Go see what left-over paints you can get from the car painting body shop. How do i go about painting a design on my crappy old car? What type of paint could I use?
well depending on what kind of art you study and how you learned would be a good way to start. to decide what kind of paint you want to use go to a hardware store and just tell them your story they will probably help you out
Well, any enamel will stick (Krylon, Rustoleum, etc.), but you need to at least scuff up the old paint first. You are an art student, get creative! Decopauge, stripe it, or something. I remember a carpet dealer who glued carpet samples and completely covered a VW bug once! Get some of your classmates brainstorm into an idea. Who knows, someone may want to buy it when you're done!

How do i know what paint color and paint type is on my walls?

some areas need touch ups but i have no idea what exact color the previous owners used on the walls.

i do not want to repaint everything, just touchups here and there.

there is no way of contacting the prev owners. it was bank-owned.How do i know what paint color and paint type is on my walls?
Take a chip of it to Wal-Mart and match it to a sample, or have them mix up some for you- gloss? matte?. You can probably get close, but it may be best just to do one entirely fresh coat. How do i know what paint color and paint type is on my walls?
Just so you know, even if you had the exact name, brand and sheen, this will not match. If you are trying to be too precise, you will end up probably spending more time and money instead of just painting everything. good luck.
Go to paint store and get some sample paint chips. Find the one closest to your color. Buy a small amount or sample bottle. Make the touchups.
Peel a little chunk of the wall and bring it to Home Depot or Lowe's. They can match it up with their computer.
It's most likely latex (water-based) paint unless it was painted decades ago. You can figure out the sheen from getting a sheen chart from a paint store or from anywhere that sells paint. The most common sheens for interior walls are flat, eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss. If the paint has absolutely no shine to it, it's flat. If it has a minimal amount of shine but doesn't seem to reflect light, it's eggshell. Satin reflects light and has some shine but does not appear at all glossy. And semi-gloss is self-described: it's glossy, but when compared to something that's really high gloss, it doesn't appear as glossy.

Most places that sell paint will do color-matching. All you'll need to take is a chip of paint no larger than 1 inch by 1 inch. If you can carefully remove a paint chip about that size from by one of the spots that you need to touch up, that will work great. Take your paint chip to a paint store, and tell them that you want it color-matched, and be sure to tell them that you are doing touch-ups and you need the exact color.

You might want to take a sheen chart home with you and hold it up to your wall to decide what sheen it is rather than try to compare you little paint chip to the sheen chart at the store. If the sheen is too different from what's on the wall already, that will be more noticeable than if the color isn't 100% exact.

When you get home with your color-matched paint, paint one of the areas that needs touching up. Let it dry--you can speed this up by using a hair dryer on it. If you're satisfied, and it looks good, then go ahead and do the rest of your touch-ups. If the color is slightly off to where it's noticeable, take the paint back to the store along with you paint chip and tell them you need the color adjusted. Let them know whether it was too light or dark, or had too much red in it or whatever the difference in color was. They should be able to adjust it to make it exact. Most stores that have color-matching readers advertise that they can match any color. Hold them to their word.

One other thing: if you go to a hardware store or paint store specifically, it is likely that the employee matching the paint for you will have a lot more experience than employees at Walmart that have simply been trained on how to mix paint. If the color needs tweeking slightly, you'll have better luck at a hardware store or paint store.

In Consumer Reports a few of the top-ranking paints are Behr (sold at Home Depot), Valspar (sold at Lowe's), and Kilz (this ranks #1 and is sold at Walmart, so the person mixing paint might not know as much as someone somewhere else, but this is still worth considering-it's a good price). Expensive paints like Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore rank mediocre or even poor in Consumer Reports magazine. You shouldn't need to spend any more than $25 a gallon for a top-performing paint.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

How do I go about painting over freshly applied antifouling paint?

Some say wetsand it down, add primer coat on the top of that then paint, some say just apply primer over antifouling and repaint while some say apply primer, resand then paint in your colour choice - what do you say?How do I go about painting over freshly applied antifouling paint?
You don't want to paint over antifouling paint with regular paint! It will defeat the whole purpose of using antifouling paint. The bottom of the boat only, should be cover in antifouling, to just above the water line.

I recommend using Abblative Antifouling paint, which slowly sheds itself during the boating season, leaving a fresh layer, and decreasing buildup year after year. How do I go about painting over freshly applied antifouling paint?
It depends on what paint you have on there now. Most of the time a good pressure washing with a light sanding does the job for prep work. Then repaint. Bottom paint is expensive so paint and then use up the rest close to the waterline.
Don't apply any other paint over anti== paint as it will not stay anti==paint is designed to slowly remover it self%26gt;Sand to bare fiberglass then paint%26gt;Not going to be a easy job and where a Suit %26amp; Resperator as the anti=p is very toxic%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;
Since the purpose of anti-fouling paint is to keep marine animals and plants from growing on the hull, I would expect you don't want to cover it up and only apply it up to just above the water line, then use regular marine paint above. Besides, topside paint needs to withstand the sun and weather a lot more than anit-fouling paint does
what type of paint and why, do you want to give it a second coat of antifouling , or do you just want regular paint over it for some reason?
I wouldn't sand that toxic paint! Fresh anti fouling paint on your boat should be good to go. What's wrong with it? That's good paint and it will ware off with time in the water.

  • Is it safe to use paint stripper on a child's little tikes slide to get rid of paint splashes?

I bought my daughter a second hand slide yesterday but when I've washed it it's covered in paint flecks which won't come off with scubbing. I was wondering if paint stripper would be ok on the plastic? Is it safe to use paint stripper on a child's little tikes slide to get rid of paint splashes?
NO NO NO. paint strippers are VERY toxic chemicals that will melt plastic. it would ruin the slide fairly quickly. As the other answer stated, use Krud Kutter. it is a water based, mild cleaner that removes dried latex paint. i use it to clean paint out of clothes, but it is strong enough to use around the store to clean up paint spills. read any paint stripper can, it will say not to use on plastic. you should find Krud Kutter at most hardware/paint stores. the other thing that might help is using fingernails/hard plastic to try to scrape the paint off.Is it safe to use paint stripper on a child's little tikes slide to get rid of paint splashes?
use crud cutter to remove the paint you can find this at a home depot. i believe the stripper will ruin the slide ( plastic)
As long as you don't pour it straight on the slide and let it sit, it should work well. Put a little on a rag, and wipe it. You may have to do this several times...after that, just wash with soapy water, rinse well, and let your daughter enjoy her new toy!
sure use it then use clorox then let set a day or too wash with soap and water
I would try nail polish remover first--it works great on getting off almost anything!! Works wonders on permanent Markers!! So good luck with the paint!! :)
test it on a nonstructural unimportant hidden part of slide

    just a drop should do
Its unlikely, the paint stripper will probably melt the plastic. Test on an iconspicuous area first make sure you wash it down thouroughly after.
It should be alright. Just don't use a whole lot of it. And wipe it down with a soapy rag when done.

What is the best paint roller to use to paint concrete blocks?

I do not want to use a spray painter or brush. What is the best paint roller to use to paint concrete blocks?
Stevo gave you the correct answer.

After applying thousands of gallons of paint, I have experiences that enlightened me.

I use various ';nap'; lengths depending on the substrate. In your case I'd probably use no less than 3/4 inch nap, and a cover that states NON SHEDDING.

    The only issue you'll likely encounter is using more paint,,,but coverage will be better than 3/8 '; or 1/2 ';

You don't state if the block is raw or already painted?

You may still have to use a brush for mortar lines or holes in the block?

You also don't state why you don't want to spray? It truly is a fast, easy, economical, safe way to apply paint, outdoors.

Steven Wolf/Rev. StevenWhat is the best paint roller to use to paint concrete blocks?
try a segregated roller cover. they work well on accoustic ceilings too.
If you buy a roller with a thick nap it gets into the holes and block joints easier
u want the nap not the roller....just tell the guy at the store what u want to paint and he will give u a thick nap roller.....

What is your favorite paint to use for canvas painting and what brands?

I want to try my hand at canvas painting but don't know what good paints are out there to start with?

Do you prefer Oil or Acrylic? What brands are better than others? What wouldn't you buy?

What do you think of Deco Art or Blick Paints? What is your favorite paint to use for canvas painting and what brands?
Big acrylic artist secret, are you ready?

Go to walmart and head on over to the craft section.

Every acrylic artist I know uses these.

They are cheaper, brighter (if you need), and you have pretty much every color right there. There's no reason to pay more for paint.

So regardless of what ANYONE on here says, I'm sure you can afford to spend a couple of bucks on 3 or 4 different tubes to test for yourself.

Every established artist that I know who use acrylics use this brand.

(artists who paint for a living)

    Just try it.

But don't use their paint brushes :pWhat is your favorite paint to use for canvas painting and what brands?
    deco art, acrylic.

i wouldnt buy the super watered down acrylic, takes longer to dry, and you dont get the eyepopping colour of thicker acrylic...

i prefer to use acrylic in tubes, rather than bottles,... the colors are richer , and really bring a painting to life

What type of latex paint should I use to paint my kitchen?

I have a small kitchen I want to paint red, but I'm not sure whether to use satin or gloss latex paint. Does anyone have any input on what finish is best for kitchens and whether a particular finish affects some colors more than others? What type of latex paint should I use to paint my kitchen?
There is a special paint made especially for kitchens and bathrooms... All paint companies make it. Kitchens and bathrooms are high humidity rooms and this paint keeps mold from forming in your kitchen. Definitely go with this. And hurrah, it's latex! Just make certain that if you have oil paint already on the walls or don't know if it's oil or latex, then you should prime with oil based primer. You can paint with latex over oil based primer but you can't paint latex paint over oil paint as it will peel, scratch and chip off easily. Oil and water don't mix... the primer is also part glue so anything sticks to it.

Also, if you're painting red, have your primer tinted to match the paint. This will keep you from having to paint 3, 4 or 5 coats of paint as red is one of a few colors that are hard to paint well over white....

If your walls are bumpy, have nicks and stuff, then go with as low a shine as possible in your paint. Think satin instead of gloss, be it high or semi, as glossy paint shows all defects in the wall more. Bright colors (such as red) also show defects more... which means you'll be disappointed if you choose a high gloss paint.

You'll also want to wash all of your walls and ceiling before you apply any paint. Do this with liquid TSP, which you'll find at any home hardware store. TSP removes ALL grease and grime which will keep your paint from adhering properly. Use liquid TSP instead of powder. The powder is harder to mix, is toxic and you'll have to rinse after. You won't have these problems with the liquid version.

Enjoy your new kitchen! What type of latex paint should I use to paint my kitchen?
Likely, your landlord will have painted white with either a flat paint or a matte white. If that is the case, you'll only need to paint your color. Make sure you check if the paint is oil that he put on.... If the paint has any gloss in it, you'll still need to prime...

neither. use eggshell it works with jsut about anything! or maybe a semi-gloss
gloss is easier to clean for baths and kitchens, but with red, I'd go satin.
I used a satin red paint in my kitchen. Preparation is more important than the paint in this case. Be sure to give the walls a good cleaning, let dry, then use a tinted primer.

  • How many gallons of paint to paint 1600 square feet interior of house?

Please don't tear this question up, I am looking for somebody with experience of a house of similar size. Also, I will be painting all of the ceilings. I am really looking for the best estimates from people with experience. Thanks. How many gallons of paint to paint 1600 square feet interior of house?
One 1600 square ft home may have more actual wall space to be painted than another 1600 sq ft home.

However I'm assuming that you realize this.

I'll answer your question as you wish, however you will not be on the money with your paint supplies, you will either be under or over.

To get the amount of paint that you need to paint the home, you need to go room by room and get your measurements.

Here we go, as you asked:

If the 1600 is the number that you want an answer for , then your square footage of your walls = 12,800.

    12,800 / 200 = 64

    Add 1600 for celings

You need 72 gallons of paint.

If 1600 is the amount of wall space that needs to be painted, double that for the ceilings = 3200 / 200 = 16 gallons of paintHow many gallons of paint to paint 1600 square feet interior of house?
    Sorry, that doesn't help..

It is the interior WALL sq footage you need to measure...not the interior floor measurement..

    1. Measure the linear foot of wall space..if an interior wall, measure both sides....

    2. Multiply by 8, the height of the ceiling...

    3. Add to that the 1600 sq ft of ceiling area..

    4. that is how many sq ft of primer you need...if your walls are really bad...2 coats of primer may be needed...

    5. Double you answer form 3, that is how much paint you need...I always use 2 coats...

    6. If it's close...buy an extra can...

    7. Less waste if you use all the same color....

    8. Pre-mix all of the same colors together a little first...each can will be slightly different..even if they are the same color...

Hope it helps...your paint store will tell you how much sq ft a gallon of paint will cover..there is some difference..
Is this total square ft of floor(livable house space), or actual wall/ceiling space that needs to be painted?
Your probably looking at about 15- 20 gallons for two coats. Start out with less because almost all colors now are custom tint and are not returnable. You can always buy more if you need it. Or just do the math measure the room length times width times height. Average 10 X12 room 8 ft high including ceiling 472 sq. ft divided by 350 sq. ft per gallon about 1.5 gallons for one coat.
once you measure all the walls and come up with the figure, a gallon of paint will do about 350 square feet. When figuring out square footage, remember that length times width is square footage. That would need to be figured for each wall and ceiling. So if your bedroom is 8x10, each wall is about 8 feet tall, you would be looking at 80 square feet per wall and 80 for the ceiling. Thus your square footage would be about 400 square feet for the room.
Simple , there is , of course 1600 ft of ceiling, and most floor patterns in homes have about 3.5 to 4 times the floor in wall board....so maximum of 1600 X 5= 8000 Sq ft...

divide that by about 300 sq ft per gallon coverage...27 gallons, which sounds like some purchases I have made for such jobs...

What is a good paint finish to use for when youre painting a mural?

I'm painting a mural. It's not a smooth wall, it's a school wall which means it concrete painted over. what's a good paint to use...semi gloss...egg shell or flat? please send sources too! What is a good paint finish to use for when youre painting a mural?
First, find out if the wall paint is oil-based or latex. Ask a custodian. If it is oil based, you'll need to use oil paint. If it's latex, use an acrylic paint...it's easy to clean up.

In a school setting, I think a semi-gloss would be best...or even a high gloss.

Any hardware store or art supply store will have everything you'll need.

What type of latex paint should I use to paint my bathroom?

I have a small bathroom that I want to paint turquoise/aqua. What type of finish (satin, gloss, high gloss) is best to use in a bathroom? What type of latex paint should I use to paint my bathroom?
semi or high gloss or satin, they are all washable. go to sherwin williams they will help you get it done right! What type of latex paint should I use to paint my bathroom?
You need to get bathroom paint, this is treated so it does not mold and mildew. Get semi gloss... You can talk to Lowes/ Home Depot about the bathroom paint. Have Fun
use an eggshell paint. it is slightly glossy but not overpewering..kinda like an eggshell! good luck with ur room! go to ICI paints. there paint is really good!
I prefer to use a gloss latex in a bathroom simply because it's more water-resistant, and is less likely to show the effects of humidity. I wouldn't go with a high gloss, because I think that might simply look a little odd, but a semi-gloss is a lot better when dealing with humid areas than satin or flat finishes.
I always use semi-gloss for trim.
high gloss that way it can be washed down when needed
There is a semi-gloss paint that states 'mold/mildew resistant'

which is the most poplular for bathrooms %26amp; laundry rooms.

I painted my bathroom with enamel paint. If you use enamel, you paint ALL without any stopping/breaks or you will see the stop %26amp; start places. This paint stands up to frequent washing %26amp; seems to last longer. I would never attempt enamel on a large room.

What would a typical painting company charge to paint an average sized bathroom from top to bottom?

The paint would be provided, what do you think the hourly rate just for the labor would be?What would a typical painting company charge to paint an average sized bathroom from top to bottom?
That could vary greatly. A college student might charge $8 an hour, a long-term pro might charge, $20 an hour, a professional company might bill by footage or job, not hourly. You'll just have to call around and get estimates.

if it was me i would be using an exterior alkyd paint on them. you say they are sanded already? please make sure that they are not sanded too smooth. if they are then that closes the wood fibres up on any exposed wood and your primer will not penetrate properly. before you begin priming make sure that they have been washed well with TSP and water the rinse and allow to dry. apply 1 - 2 coats of an alkyd primer under coater. then apply 1 - 2 coats of an alkyd porch and floor enamel. make sure you give a light sand between coats. the porch and floor enamel will give you the most durability. for something like this i would use some 4 inch fibre rollers. it will make the job go faster and give you a nice spray like appearance. if you use these rollers make sure you wash and dry them first. this will remove any loose fibres. if there is any chance that the chairs can be taken apart then do that and paint all sides. this will help your paint to last alot longer. if you would like them to dry faster mix some japan dries into your paint. not only will the paint dry faster but it will make it even more durable.

enjoy your chairs when they are finished. What is the best paint for painting old wooden chairs, like the kind in restaurants?
Latex enamel paint is very shiny and glossy this would be great in the place that you're putting might allow it to get dirty since this paint resists stains, even though it might be a bit expensive
    use spray paint.
White, brown, orange but a light orange

How do I remove paint previously painted on my bathroom tiles?

The bathroom was given a make over by the previous owners by painting the tiles. It has since started to wear and peel and I would like to remove it and repaint a clean, smooth surface. How do I remove paint previously painted on my bathroom tiles?
Wow! I can't imagine what it would take to remove all the old paint.....laquer thinner and more hours than I would care to give it. I'm not sure you could use paint remover without etching the tile below.

I'd try just removing the loose paint with a coarse steel wool, like a #2. The prime with an oil base primer. Let dry and paint with an oil paint. Let dry and then use a polyurethane over the top. Of course the tile can't get wet or else the paint will eventually pop back off again. Talk about quickly toweling off the shower everytime it's used! How do I remove paint previously painted on my bathroom tiles?
harbor freight has a spot blaster gun - if you have a small compressor you can use this very well in small rooms (6x8) use household salt too fill the gun , makes for easy cleanup and whats left over can be mopped up easy also.
Since you are planning on repainting, try a paint and varnish remover. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and let dry. That should give you a good surface to repaint.

Anyone have any ideas? Thank you! What is the best paint or silicone to use for painting rubber boat bumpers?
That's an extruded vinyl strip, so look for paint that will work with vinyl or PVC. The only one I know that might work is Krylon's new line for plastics. It's a spray, so you'd have to mask everything else. Try a small spot first.

What color should I paint my cabinets if my walls are painted taupe?

Also, what color should I paint my cabinets if my walls are mint green? I am trying to do some home remodeling myself, but I am scared I will mess up the color coordination. What color should I paint my cabinets if my walls are painted taupe?
    Check out this web site.

There are over 100 different kitchen looks with lots of different color combinations.

Look at all of them till you find one that feels right for you.

Some of the pics may show a kitchen with your colors reversed, mint on the cabinets and another color on the walls but you can still see how the colors work together.

I am a professional painter. I have always liked light green walls with creamy white cabinets. Now that may not go in your home's flow. Maybe a darker cabinet would work. You will know.

As for the beige walls, well the cabinet color possibilities are endless depending on the color flow in your home and your personal likes.

You could paint the cabinets a deep red or a dark brown/black.

TYou could even paint the cabinets mint green and have taupe on the walls.

First, look through kitchen pics and narrow the possibilities down as to what looks nice to you.

Then take ake your time selecting colors in the color family that you like. Bring lots of color samples home with you and look at them in the light of your kitchen.

I would also like to add that prepping your cabinets is the most important part of the job if you want the paint to lat and look good.

Removing the doors first is an option. Either way, do not paint over the hinges. Remove the handles before painting.

If they are stained/varnished, you will have to sand (fine sandpaper)them well to rough up the surface and remove the shine. You do not have to sand till you reach bare wood, just enough to rough them up good.

Then apply 1 or 2 coats of a good quality primer, I use Kilz2. If one coat does not cover good, do a second coat. Allow to dry well between coats.

Then finish with a good quality semi-gloss waterbase paint in your color choice. A light color may cover in 1 coat over the primer, a dark color will need 2 coats. Allow to dry well beween coats. 2 lighter coats works etter than 1 thick coat.

If they are already painted, rough them up with fine sandpaper, prime if necessary then paint as above.

A deep chocolate brown would great with either one color. That would be really nice. It would bring a warm, modern feel into the room...I call it ';Choco Modern Sexy';!
    Taupe walls: white cabinets

    Minty walls: ;yuk!
    White for both.

take the bike apart, sand it with 220 grit sand paper, use two coats red oxide primer on the whole bike, sand lightly with 360 grit sand. Clean with alcohol, put three light coats paint, 15 minutes apart. ( Red oxide primer and paint comes in spray bombs at wal-mart or any auto parts store).

What is the best paint to use when painting your own frames?

Hobby Lobby made our frames and said acrylic paint, but I'm still unsure. Should I spray, or paint with a brush? Should I use all the special finish chemicals on it?What is the best paint to use when painting your own frames?
Any one. All depent what do you want to do.

    Best regards

Pablo HWhat is the best paint to use when painting your own frames?
Yes, use acrylic paint. You didn't say if they're metal or wood frames, so you may need a primer. Spray paint produces an even finish, no brush strokes, but use care, spray them while laying flat so you don't have any drips. Three light coats are better than one heavy coat, and let dry between applications. If you choose to use a sealer, make sure it's non-yellowing.
depends on what you want as a finished product

acrylic paint for two sanded coats then two light spray coats will get ya about anything that ya want
I use wooden frames and paint them with acrylic paints - the same exact paints I use to paint the painting. That way the paint matches both the frame and painting.

See link below of an example.

The frame is wood. The painting is also done on wood.

When I finished painting the frame I coated it with a glossy varnish.

How many cans of paint will it take to paint the following room?

A room's dimensions are 20 feet long, 20 feet wide and 8 feet high. The room's floor, ceiling and walls all need to be painted. If a can of paint will cover 360 square feet, how many cans of paint do you need to buy if you paint the entire room twice?

How many cans of paint will it take to paint the following room?
The total square footage you need to cover is 1440: Walls= (20*8)*4=640; Floor and ceiling= (20*20)*2=800; 640+800=1440

1440/360=4. So, to paint it all twice, you would need about 8 cans of paint. How many cans of paint will it take to paint the following room?
that is 1200 square feet of wall space...the average paint is 350 to 400 feet per gallon..on smooth walls...if heavy textured it will be more like 250 square feet per gallon..the second coat will cover more than the second and use less paint..about 500 square feet..for 2 coats I would say get a 5 gallon bucket and it should do it ....It is cheaper to buy paint in the 5 gallon buckets than it is in single gallons...
You're painting the floor with the same paint? OK. It depends on the quality of the paint and how heavy handed you are. Assuming smooth walls. Maybe 3 gallons (15 litres) normal rollering, with one or two more if you are heavy handed.

The coverage guides on the cans are always very optimistic.
    20 * 8 * 4 walls = 640 sq ft

so to paint it all once you need 640/360 = 1.78 cans

to paint it all twice 3.5 cans
may take 1 and one half cans. depends if you are going light over dark or same color. or if priming is involved.

  • What would cause new paint or primer to put little clumps of paint on the walls with a brush or roller?

Hello, I've never experienced this problem when painting. Whether I use a new roller or brush little flexs of thickened paint show up on the wall. Both the paint and primer are new as well. I have to roll it on, then wipe it partially off with a cloth, and then roll it again to get a smoothe finish. I've used the brands of paint and primer without any problems previously.

Your suggestions are appreciated. What would cause new paint or primer to put little clumps of paint on the walls with a brush or roller?
Strain the paint thru an old pair of nylons. Is sounds like the pigment was not mixed well causing the clumps. Or the paint itself is old. What would cause new paint or primer to put little clumps of paint on the walls with a brush or roller?
Don't know if this is your problem or not, but we had clumps of paint on our walls after we use a PLASTIC roller pan. The paint would start drying on the plastic from loading the roller and because it didn't stick to plastic, the next load would pick up dried flicks of paint.

We never have had a problem with this when we use metal roller pans. It solved our problem!
i always screen any paint by pouring it thru a strainer that you can buy at your paint store. but first i mix it with a paint mixing blade on a cordless drill to blend any pigment that is on the bottom of the can. also, the pro's will wrap new roller covers with painters masking tape from one end of the roller cover to the other, do this in a spiral overlapping wrap, to pull off any loose lint or fibers from it. if you still have problems with the paint lumping, either return it to where you got it, or thin it with the proper solvent or thinner listed on the side of the can. start small, you can always add more, but you can't take it back out. good luck, hope this helps.

What is the best paint/ method of painting for pressed wood furniture?

I have a couple pieces of furniture made of pressed wood that I would like to paint. What is the best paint and/or the best method for painting these pieces? What is the best paint/ method of painting for pressed wood furniture?
You can only paint pressed wood furniture (MDF) if it has a veneer coating over the particle board. If the pressed board gets wet it will swell and lose its stability and shape. If it has a good veneer layer over it, you need to lightly scratch the surface of the veneer with a fine sand paper to allow the paint to adhere to the veneer's surface. Depending on the type of piece you are painting, I would recommend either Sherwin-Williams or ICI. It would last longer if you primed the piece before actually painting it...use a fine brush to eliminate streaks, and go in the same direction as the grain on the veneer. Make sure to finish it with a coat of polyurethane to protect the paint! Have fun!!!What is the best paint/ method of painting for pressed wood furniture?
Sand it well and then paint as you would solid wood. It may require an extra coat or two because pressed wood will soak up the paint. I would use enamel paint and brush it on, or spray paint, if you can work outside.

Is it better to paint my skirting board with gloss paint after cutting with a mitre saw, to avoid chipping?

I can either gloss paint all of my skirting boards and touch up after cutting with a electric mitre saw, or I could gloss paint each individual piece after being cut to size... the latter takes longer but would I be avoiding gloss paint chips that way? or doesn't gloss chip when cut?Is it better to paint my skirting board with gloss paint after cutting with a mitre saw, to avoid chipping?
with a sharp blade on a mitre saw should be smooth, and make a good cut. However if you aren't using a trim piece to cover the ends, use sand paper, smooth all cut edges to remove any chips or fuzz then paint. If you cut with the finished side up it will show less splintering. The key will be the type blade and its sharpness, and the ease that you push down on wood. I use an 80 tooth carbide blade and finish the trim before cutting. The gloss needs to cure no less than 24 hours before cutting.

Tip on finish; prime bare wood, apply 1 coat of gloss, cut, install, fill nail holes then apply top coat.Is it better to paint my skirting board with gloss paint after cutting with a mitre saw, to avoid chipping?
i'd gloss once on the wall. try and stick as much of the skirting to the wall with pink grip this way no fixing holes to fill and sand. on the external miteres i glue them together first with miter fast . once on the wall run a bead on decorators caulk between the top edge of skirting and wall. undercoat and gloss.
With a sharp mitre saw or chop saw, the paint should not fleck or chip. However, i would get all the skirting on the wall then paint.

Thats the way most tradesmen do it.
You might undercoat it before assembly - priming the back is often a good idea.

Paint the top coat in situ when complete, and all stopping (filling nail holes) etc has been done.
apply skirting to the wall and then you should prime it before anything else then undercoat and finally gloss using 2 coats of undercoat for a nice even base

Do I have to paint a wall white before painting it?

Do I have to paint a wall white before painting it?

My wall is regular violet/purple now, and i want to paint it regular green. Should I paint my wall white first before painting it green, or should i just paint with green right away.

Thanks.Do I have to paint a wall white before painting it?
You should paint it with a primer first which helps cover it with one coat.Do I have to paint a wall white before painting it?
After thousands of gallons of paint, and not strictly advocating PRIMER as a fix it all, all the time, it would seem in your case, it might be the way to proceed.

Beyond the color DARK to lighter perhaps, might also be the issue of the base paint TYPE. IE: Semi gloss/flat/satin/etc. and the substance of the new color.

In the end you may have to apply 2 coats of the new color anyway; but think of the primer, in your case, as a caution best taken, in spending a few extra dollars and hours, to assure that no OOOPS will happen.

Consider this. Green and Purple pretty much create Brown, if mixed wet. You might find that the first coat of green, especially if lighter in tone/shade; than the quality of the Purple,,, EVEN dry,,,might look MUDDY?

Also,,, and with no offense at all,,,PURPLE isn't exactly a color one wants to live with for a long term. A gentle Lavendar might work well, for awhile in a young ladies bedroom, but it's an abstract color choice for a room one has to be in, for hours at a time. Think of it in a psychological sense. Green, on the other hand is a NATURAL color and far more easy to live with.

The choice to spend another $20 on a decent primer, and the labor time involved will allow that you will probably be more satisfied, AFTER the fact.

    Steven Wolf
Violet to Green will take two coats Minimum.

First coat you should use a Primer and have it tinted close to the color you are going to paint.

Then Go on with the Paint color coat and you should be done.

If you don't then expect 3 coats of paint and it wont look as good.

You don't have to go to white, just tint the primer

Other things to consider, what is the Paint type on the wall now. Flat, Eggshell, Satin, Semi-gloss or Gloss. If it is anything but flat Prime for sure or expect 4 coats of paint
If the color underneath is darker than the new color you are using, you may want to put a primer. If you don't use a primer underneath, your new paint job might not cover up some of the old color underneath. I have had my home professionally painted before and had this situation. I don't think they even used a primer or white underneath though. They just used two coats of a really good brand of paint(sherwinn williams). I think it also depends on the brand of paint you are going to use, too.
It's not just that you paint it white, you need to seal it or the green will not cover the purple. You need a good ';primer'; which usually comes in white. When you're trying to cover such an intense color it's always good to prime first.
Violet/purple? This color may bleed thrugh.

Yes, by all means, paint it white first. If the violet color shows through the white, paint it again. You may even need a third coat of white.

And you want green? The next time you paint, you will need a coat or two of white paint to keep the green from bleeding through.

Not good color choices, but hey, it's your room.
Only if you want to .
if it has much of a sheen finish you could start with a coat of the new color in a flat finish, then if you want a sheen on the final coat it will be more likely to cover. Either way you will have to put 2 coats. The flat, will serve as the primer. If you prime white first, you will probaly still have to use 2 coats.of the finish color. When it comes to painting 2 coats is alot easier than 3.
You need to use primer first because if you don't the colors will bleed through. Primer is different than white paint.
I read all or most of the ';answers'; listed.. I'd like to add just one more thing.. First off, it's a good idea to primer the walls especially if you are going from a dark---lighter color.. Also, don't go with the cheapest paint, it will be harder to paint with and not last as long.. *Also, tint your primer the same color you will be painting with or even a few shades lighter to keep the work load down... You'll need fewer cover coats and you're likely to not get any bleeding of colors through the freshly painted surface... Good luck
Depends on the color green...is it regular light green or dark green? You can try painting a small area in the corner to see if the color will be true...because deeper colors are harder to cover. If you decide you need to prime you can either prime it with a cheaper paint the same color as the finish you want and then paint with the good stuff or if you want to completely get rid of the current color then use Kilz or something similar to get rid of the color and have a true ';green'; when you are finished.

  • What's the best paint for painting action figures you plan on using?

My friend spent 12 hours perfecting a custom made Big Daddy V %26amp; a few days after a couple sprays of sealent, the paint chipped when he moved all the body parts. I'm trying to help him find the right paint or possibly the right sealent. Thanks. What's the best paint for painting action figures you plan on using?
A tip for painting action figures, don't paint the inside of a joint in a closed position. It does cause it to flake. I have found if you really want to paint inside the joint area you must bend the joint to expose as much as possible. Paint the inside and let it dry thoroughly then seal it and let it dry again before moving the joint again.

Most people have a tendency to move things to soon. When I say dry thoroughly I mean at least 24 hours if you live where the humidity is high or it's raining on the day you paint add at least 12 hours. It may feel dry to the touch, but paint also needs to cure. Also if painting small gaming figures made of metal, seal them with a good coat of ';workable fixative';, this is so the paint will stick better and if by chance there is any lead in the metal it will seal it so you do not absorb the lead through the skin. Many companies do not use lead any more be the ones coming from outside the US may still have lead in them. If the figurine has a felixable covering over the joints than you may have to contact the manufactor of the figure and ask them what paint to use it as it may be something not commonally available to the public and need to be special ordered. It is really worth it to spend a couple dollars more and get the ones made of anything other than metal. The other draw back of the metal figures is they will eventually rust and the life of most of the older ones is about 10 years. If you have any older ones it would be a good idea to reseal them including the bottom of them to slow the deterioration. I love the new figures as the detail is so much better and if you really want detail you can always paint with a single bristle of a paint brush. As my brushes wear I take the best bristles left and attatch them to toothpicks to make single bristles for painting logos, facial hair, and any tiny things. Another tip if you want something textured looking while the paint is damp take a piece of fine sandpaper, blot the paint when almost dry with it DON';T rub. If the paint is to fresh it will not stay and if to thin it may show the primer. It will give it a rough look like burlap and extra fine will give the look of suede. But the best tip I can give any one is let each one color dry before painting another color that touches the first. It will give you cleaner lines and no blending or bleeding of the colors. I know it's hard to be patient but it's worth it in the end. If you do a lot of figures take pix's and post them so we can see them.

I've had good results with solid or semi-solid deck stains. The semi-solid seems to penetrate better, but the solid will hide more defects. It might be my imagination (I don't think it is, but maybe), but I also seem to see better overall results with oil based stains instead of latex. Oil based products are becoming difficult to find, in some states they are virtually unavailable, but that's what I generally use in a tough situation.
    Hi,

First, be sure to primer the material. Get a good quality one from any Big Box store.

What is the best paint to use to paint plastic eyeglasses frames?

I just bought a pair of vintage plastic eyeglasses online, the shape is perfect (ive been searching for this shape everywhere) but i hate the color. What is the most durable and least toxic (since it will be sitting on my face for extended periods of time) paint to use? I have been thinking about using the spray paint for plastics but I'm not sure if thats the best choice. What is the best paint to use to paint plastic eyeglasses frames?
I know you want to but I really wouldn't put paint, especially spray on your glasses. They'll be near your eyes and will most likely be bad for them however non toxic the paint is. I'm sure the colours not that bad. :)

I'm planning on painting a murel for a friend in her kids room- what kind of paint is ideal?

I need the cheapest option that will still look good. Could I use regular house paint and then add details with acrylic?I'm planning on painting a murel for a friend in her kids room- what kind of paint is ideal?
You can use latex interior paint with acrylic touches, but you might be looking at a difference in finish (flat acrylic vs satin latex paint). You can mix in a little satin medium gel to the acrylic before painting to fix this -- you can find this just about anywhere they sell art supplies. If, for some reason, there is a need to wash down the wall with the mural regularly, it is best to seal it with a clear acrylic sealer -- usually available in a spray can, but of course get everything out for the day and cover the floor and other walls before sealing. If it will be treated just like any normal wall in the house, there is no need to seal it.I'm planning on painting a murel for a friend in her kids room- what kind of paint is ideal?
It depends on her age and what she is ';into';...

Here are some ideas that I have and what you could paint:-

    * You could have hidden images, (You could even take her photo and stick it inside one of the houses - lacquer of the top)

    2) Garden Theme

    * Butterflies %26amp; Flowers

    * Obviously lots of flowers

Hope that helped, as for the paint type, I think for BIG areas it would be okay to use house paint... and then details with arcylic. (Just make sure you are not painting over a oil base paint or you'll have to use oil base paint to paint over the top... it peels otherwise).

How much would a paint job cost on a 1991 toyota camry approximately?

I have a 1991 Toyota Camry that I want painted yellow (lol). Obviously I don't want to spend too much on the paint job because the car is so old, but I don't want it to look like crap either. Can anyone give me a good estimate?

Thanks! How much would a paint job cost on a 1991 toyota camry approximately?
12How much would a paint job cost on a 1991 toyota camry approximately?
Maaco starts at like 300 for a (really) cheap paint job. Camrys are pretty small especially the older generations...

Its the body work that gets ya though. If they could paint it for you without doing any bodywork I dont think you would have to spend more than..... Maybe 400? Youll just have to ask around.

And if you want to look really nice then obviously its going to cost you but with that old of a car theres really no point.
A paint job equivalent to a factory paint job will cost no less than $2000. Yes you can get it done for less, but you get what you pay for.
most paint jobs usually cost around $3,500-+ and those are the good paint jobs. Usually if you take it to a mediocre or school body shop it'll be around $1,000 plus labor. =]

What color should I paint the trim on a yellow brick house?

Need some advice on what color to paint the exterior trim on a yellow brick bungalow. It is currently the most hideous color of yellow I have ever seen. Looking for color suggestions other than whit, yellow or brown. Any links /pictures would be helpful. What color should I paint the trim on a yellow brick house?
I would paint the door white to match the trim. It will help give the house a more traditional and elegant appearance, and will really make the colour of the surrounding flowers stand out. What color should I paint the trim on a yellow brick house?
There is a house in our town that was just renovated and the colors they selected for the outside paint job look sooooo good. The body of the house is yellow and the trim is a sage green. I smile every time I drive by that house. Consider that.

If you go out into your yard, away from the house, you can hold the paint chip up, close one eye, and line the chip up to your front door (you may have to fold the chip to size) you can see, with that one eye closed, how that paint chip color will look on your house before even taking out a paint brush. I highly recommend this method to my clients all of the time and it never fails when selecting trim paint for the outside of a house. I love yellow homes.

So, try a few shades of sage green-- it is a color between lime green and moss green.

Good luck with your painting project.
If you have shutters paint those black and the window trim an off white (benjamin moore. navajo white?). Black door with brass hardware would look real sharp. If you don't have shutters, try black trim, if there is a lot of trim you might want to tone it down with the front door being a few shades lighter than the yellow brick (but in the same color family) and use black hardware for the door. Without seeing the yellow brick I think black will give you an up to date look where dark green, dark brown, or dark blue might look outdated. Whatever combination you choose between trim, shudders, front door I think you need a total of three colors. Yellow brick, black, off white.

  • What is the best paint to use to paint an electric guitar?

I'm designing my own guitar and I'm not sure what the best type of paint is for the job. I've seen several videos and forums that use spray paint but I want to be sure that is the route to go. And if anyone plans to answer with ';Just get it done professionally'; don't even waste your time posting it because that is not what I asked. What is the best paint to use to paint an electric guitar?
Auto Zone carries a line of paint that is exactly what you need for this. It comes in spray cans located in the automotive touch-up paint. It is made by Dupli-Color. It called EFFEX. It comes in clear and black. It is supposed it be applied over a solid color base. It will then give a glitter effect. I have used this a lot on different things. It works great. Use a clear top coat over the end result, that will add depth to the finish and make it more durable. I don't know your skill level, so I will tell you basic things. Surface preparation is 90%. The glossier something is the more the boo boos show. The paint dries quickly so you can use overspray techniques. When you are ready for the top coat let it dry overnight. Soft sand with 300 grit wet or dry. If you use a sanding block it will help you sand flat. The dust coming off will look like talcum powder. Any shiny spot you see is low it will be dull and you will think you have messed up your master piece. Wipe it down with a soft cloth and top coat it two or three times.Try different things and have a good time. If you don't like what you did let it dry overnight and paint over it. I have a walking stick that you can look at in the sun and see 6 different colors.

What type of paint brush should I use to paint my bed?

It is stained cherry colored right now, and someone told me that you can paint over stain. I don't want alot of brush strokes and I want it to look good. I am thinking about painting it black. Also, what type of paint should I use? What type of paint brush should I use to paint my bed?
First.. Is the stain covered with a laquer or polyeurathane? If so,You MUST remove all of that sealant off first or your paint will not stick. Any time it is bumped it will peel like an overripe peach..

With flatwork or light contours, a roller would be a good idea. If it has any kind of millwork, you will need to use a brush for that area..

The brush/paint question is always an interesting one.. most people use latex cause it's cheap and easy... An oil based alkaloyd is a little harder to clean up but has a harder finish.

The brushes now a days tell you what kinds of paints and stain they work best with .. I like the Purdy brushes.

Whatever you do... DO NOT cheap out on the brush.. that will make a huge difference.. Horse hair, china bristle, then the poly brushes are best better, good in that order but the cost goes up alot.. For a one shot deal nad for what you are doing a good middle of the road brush in th 7-20$ range will work. What type of paint brush should I use to paint my bed?
If you don't want brush strokes...then why not use a roller?
Lightly sand and spray in an open area is correct. If you don't want to spray, use a stain with a cloth, allthough you may have to add a polished finish, if you want it to shine. There are so many colors.
Use one of those cheap sponge brushes. Use low gloss oil based enamel.
back would probably work great and for the best quality an oil base paint secures really nicely to the finish even though it is a little more pricey you may need to prime the surface first our roughen it up a bit with sand paper

a wide boar hair brush would do the trick im sure even though you could use rollers it doesnt go on as smoothly and sometimes leaves little fibers behind if you don't get the pricey ones

    good luck :]
For intricate work like the mullion on a window use a sash brush that is angled and about 1-1/2 inch wide.

For doors, windows and trim use brushes that are 3 inch wide and have a straight edge. If the brush has a narrow end then it will retain more paint than a flat-ended brush.

you need to sand it first. spraying might be nice, if you know how, can be a little tricky to get it even.

Otherwise the brush is just a brush for paint not stain. Probably want to use a good primer like kilz or kilz paint from walmart. The brush strokes don't usually come from the brush, just from going back over the same area. Make sure you have plenty of paint on your brush so you don't have to repaint over the same stroke.

I'm not sure if there is a special paint that can handle the heat from the lamp or not. What type of paint should I use to paint an old white lampshade?
The best method is spray paint, this is something i have used to paint almost everything with...LOL Depending on the material and color of choice there are various options....

    1. If your lamp puts out extreme heat latex will peel off.... You can take the bulb down in watts (40 watts) or go to acrylic paint which takes heat better...

    2. If your lamp doesnt seem to get that hot than fusion paint from your local wal-mart or hardware store will work just fine and they have more color choices than you can shake a stick at...

3.On many fabrics you can stain the lighter colors real nice....add extra fabric and add those little dangales from the bottom with hot glue(sweet)....

    So many options,

Stoner CustomsWhat type of paint should I use to paint an old white lampshade?
As a painter, when something like this comes up on a job I call the paint company's technical help line. Most major paint manufacturers have 800 numbers to help with questions like this. Generally speaking oil base paints will handle higher temperatures than latex paints. Most latex paints will withstand temperatures of 200-250 Fahrenheit. A lampshade shouldn't get that hot so you could use any paint you want. Just to be safe I would still make the phone call.

A primer would be great like what captsnuf said, a while ago i painted my room in blackboard paint, not too sure what the manufactuer was called, but I was so impatient i just didn't bother with primers... it still looks great, i don't think there would be a huge difference with or without so it's really up to you :) if you're patient go for it! but it's not really necessary.

What kind of paint works well for painting pumpkins?

I like for my kids to paint their pumpkins so they can be fully involved but last year we used the paints you use for ceramics and they washed off when it rained! What could I use that would stay on better? What kind of paint works well for painting pumpkins?
When I was little we painted pumpkins too, and we always used acrylic paint.

To prevent the acrylic from flaking or washing off, I'd suggest getting a varnish or paint sealant that comes in a spray can (that way the pictures don't smear, and it goes on fairly lightly)...you should be able to pick up something like that at any hardware store and most craft stores.

    Good luck!

Just make sure you prime with a high adhesive primer. NO FLAT PAINT
I would prime first and use semi gloss on both surfaces, flat paint tends to get chalky after time
yes but you must make sure there is oxidized paint still on from the original paint (its the dusty film that rubs off when you touch it) if there is you need to wash the trailer with TSP(tri-sodium phosphate)you can get at any hardware store.

What is the best paint to use when painting over very dark colors on the walls.?

I am repainting the interior of my house back to white before it goes up for sale. What is the best paint to use when painting over very dark colors on the walls.?
The best product I have found is the Kilz 2 it is paint with the primer inside it. It puts two ateps into one. It is available in a broad range of shades and is about $16 at Walmart. I have used it several times and it covers in just one coat. Possibly two if the walls are really dark but I have covered red in just one. What is the best paint to use when painting over very dark colors on the walls.?
Apply a white primer first then apply your paint.
I would start with a primer. Regular paint by itself might not be enough to cover the dark colors. Primer can be found next to the paint wherever you are going to buy it.
You should always apply primer before painting walls with a colour lighter than the present one.
For walls made of concrete, you can always use flat-latex white paint as a base coat (1 coat only) and then apply semi-gloss latex white (2-coats) to get your wall back into bright white.
My favorite primer is KILZ. It is tintable, which means that you will be using less paint to achieve desired results. Just have the paint store tint the primer to a shade near to what you are using for the paint. You will be happy with the coverage. Drying time is just one hour with KILZ, and it is soap and water clean up. Using this product will allow you to use the less expensive paints, but still get great looking results. Hope this helps.
Like the others have said, primer will help you get through the job easier. One coat of a decent primer will cut your painting job tremendously by blocking the old color and sealing in any stains. It costs about half the cost of paint, so it makes your job go more quickly, especially if you've got any really strong colors that might otherwise take 3-4 coats to cover all the way.

The other thing that seems counter-intuitive but is true is that the better quality the paint that you buy to do the job, the less it will cost and the quicker it will go. Cheap paint doesn't have the same amount of solids in it, so you need twice as many coats and twice as much paint to do the same job. I'm a huge fan of the Behr enamel paints at Home Depot. If you're doing a light color, you'll do well to get an enamel in an eggshell finish for about $21/gallon. It should be a quick and easy job, should clean up without a problem, and if anyone slops a hand on your walls during the open houses, the paint is scrubbable and won't wear off. Beats the heck out of the cheap paints from Walmart or the hardware stores that are a lot cheaper, but need 3 coats and can't be cleaned...can only be repainted.
if you want white you can buy KILZ 2 Its latex and a great primer

How do I stop paint peeling off a ceiling after it is painted?

We have tried to paint the ceiling in two rooms upstairs but the paint peels off afterwards. We have tried to remove as much of the old paint as possible but it still happens. What is the answer??How do I stop paint peeling off a ceiling after it is painted?
There is a REASON why the paint won't stick. Even the old paint would stick forever if the problem could be found. Most times it is moisture pushing off the paint from the surface. Greasy ceilings is another reason why paint won't stick.

Proper preparation is the only way to ensure that the paint will stick.

So that means getting it clean is always step 1.

Maybe that didn't happen here and you painted on crud. Crud doesn't hold very well.

So right now, all you can do is scrape off all the paint on the ceiling(especially where it does not stick, Then check....is the ceiling wet(has it ever been wet?)-this may mean going up into the attic and pulling back the insulation so you can look at the back of the drywall for tell tale water stains.

If it has been wet, then where is the water coming from. Fix that first.(from the outside and done proper).

If it is determined that it never got wet, then you got to go back down into the room and wash down the ceiling with a TSP solution which will remove oil and grease from the pre painted surfaces. It may be invisible to the eye but it is there. Let that dry.

Then apply a coat of latex primer/sealer. Let that dry completely and then a coat of ceiling white.(maybe 2 coats to hide the surface evenly.) That should do you.How do I stop paint peeling off a ceiling after it is painted?
is this an older house that may have used calcimne for ceiling paint.........the trick is is to now scrape al the loose stuff and patch for smoothness............you will need to use either an oil based primer like KILZ or a primer designed for calcimine ceilings.....once primed with that your problem is solved
First thing to do is find out why it is peeling , then you can use a good primer that bonds to any surface ( not regular kilz that stuff cheap , stinky , and is not all that great ) you may have a moisture problem , or water leaks , go to a Paint Store , ( lowes ,and home depot are NOT paint stores ) maybe a Sherwin Williams , ask them for a moisture meter , they either have one to loan or you can get one for about 50 bucks or less , ( do not freak , you are spending more than that re painting time ,and again instead of finding the problem ) .....Paint only peels for a reason , find that reason , fix the issue , then worry about re painting

A moisture meter will tell you if there is too much moisture in the walls for the paint to bond , and it saves you from having to locate the spot in the attic , and messing with the insulation ,(itchy) .....If it was grease as suggested above , the paint would not even cover the greasy spot to begin with , so scratch that theory , you said it was peeling , right , anyway like I said fix the problem find the solution , re painting first only doctors the problem it does not make it go away ....
Put a good primer on first kilz primer is a good one, make sure it's mostly dry conditions i mean like not raining outside or anything like that.

What color should I paint my home office?

The furniture is a dark espresso brown and my accent colors are white and a brighter olive green color. What should I do?What color should I paint my home office?
purple! What color should I paint my home office?
    Lime green poop.
    Sage green, maybe?
I would go with a subtle pink with bright purple spots. Maybe throw a little yellow in. That will put you in the right mood every time you enter your office
off white or gray would be my choice.
I would go w/ a mid-range redish orange type color. This color will match the dk. brown, the green %26amp; the white %26amp; tan. I would only start w/ painting one wall this color, then give it a day to see if you want to paint the whole room this color. You may decide to go w/ just the one wall %26amp; paint the rest white. you have to use your own judgement on that. If the room is small, I wouldn't suggest painting it all red, as it will make the room look even smaller %26amp; cramped. but if you don't want the other walls white, consider painting them a lt. yellow or orange to go w/ the rest of the colors.
I just read that turquoise is the best new color for 2010.

There's a site where you can upload your room pics and they will tell you the best colors based on your furniture, window exposure, etc.

How to paint multiple small flowers in a realistic oil painting?

I have a pot of yellow dancing lady orchids with many tiny flowers on each branch.

They look difficult to paint compared to big simple flowers (daisies). Do you have advice for how to paint multiple small flowers?

Should I sketch each individual flower first, or just start painting as I draw? How to paint multiple small flowers in a realistic oil painting?
    1. I know this is a hassle, but since you are striving for realism, and unless you have a very developed artist eye and hand, consider fully sketching out a single flower. Sketch it out in graphite or charcoal on paper until you are very comfortable with its form and shading. Then, also annoying, fully sketch out a single stem of flowers. Finally, sketch out the whole pot of flowers before transferring sketch to canvas. It was the way the old masters did it.

    2. Having said that, if I was doing the painting, I would take a photograph of the pot, proportionately crop it to the canvas size, and add scale-up lines in Adobe Elements. I'd lightly charcoal in the lines on the canvas and scale up the photo and start painting. ...Leonardo didn't have a computer.

(Actually, I've done scale-up with flowers and was disappointed with the result, it lack a more intimate understanding of how the flower petals bent and how they were shaded. Next time I will spend the time and focus on No. 1 above, hassle or not.)

Dancing Lady Orchids are beautiful flowers. Good luck! How to paint multiple small flowers in a realistic oil painting?
the best way is to use the grid method.

just take a picture of the flowers, then grid them.

the next step is put the same amount of steps in the canvas ( remember not to press hard with your pencil when sketching )

i had one fixed that was about the size of a dollar bill and it cost me100 bucks to get it fixed and painted, and i thought that was a good deal ,it will cost at least a 100 bucks, body shops charge by the hour on repairing things like this, good luck. How much would spot painting cost on a quarter size paint scratch?
    Hay

If you have a deep scratch and it is the size of a quarter , If it went all the way to the metal and you can see it. Then you must repair this spot the size of a softball or bigger because if you try to put touch up paint on it you will see it even more clearly. The reason why you have too fix it in a bigger space so that it dont look like a knot or a sore thumb.See you have too sand it down too the metal fill it sand it again prime it scuff it up, paint it let it dry clear it 2 or 3 times all done.Thats doing it yourself! let a body shop do cost's about 175.00. Good Luck
just the paint match fee could be 100 dollars.

I would like to know the ratio of paint to thinner for metal? How do I mix paint to thinner for metal painting?
That will depend on the type of paint system you are using. It can be 1:1, 2:1, 2:1:1, 1:1:1, 3:1, 3:1:1 and so on!

The best way to tell is to read the label on the can. It will give ratios of paint to reducer to hardener to activator and so on.

What kind of black paint to use when wanting to paint pine furniture?

Im wanting to paint a pine cabinet black. Not just a dull black, but the new semi-gloss black that the new, but looks old furniture. Ive seen this furniture in alot of different stores, like hobby lobby, craft stores, and furniture stores. Most of the furniture has sanded areas down the sides of the legs and around the corners of a table. Not sure to use just a plain black paint from lowes or do i need a high quality semi-gloss paint from a paint store. What kind of black paint to use when wanting to paint pine furniture?
The ';Shabby Chic'; look you're talking about usually requires coats of different color paints before your final topcoat, of black in this case. That way, when you sand at the edges, you get the layers showing through. Although you can do it without the added colors if you want

You can use water-based or oil based paint for this type of painting - water-based is easier to deal with and clean up, but will definitely require a primer.

    Good luck-

...What kind of black paint to use when wanting to paint pine furniture?
If you want the old look I would be careful using the semi gloss. It will ';shred'; when you try to sand through it or make it look distressed. If you must go with paint I would use a satin black and then a satin poly over that.

If possible, I would sand down your cabinet and use a black stain so you can see the woodgrain. Sand slightly and stain again. I think it gives the prettiest effect. Then use a coat of matte polyurethane. You don't want to go overboard on the sanding b/c pine is a very light wood and you could damage it.
I used a glossy black paint on my desk and it looked great. I then went over it with polyurethane to protect if from nicks. I traced the top with butcher paper and had a glass store cut a piece of tempered glass to protect the high use top. Then took off the handles and spray painted them brass. I think the glossy made it look higher quality but that's a matter of your preference really. I bought the paint at Lowes and it was fine and lasted.
Don't know what look your talking about but I would put an oil based paint or oil solid color stain and the put a ';SPAR'; urethane on top of that for durability, with these you wouldn't have to prime just make sure your furniture is completely dry, Good luck Les the painter
Okay the correct way to do this project!! You would need to prime the surface using the 1-2-3 Primer/Bin/Zinsser (they have this at Lowe's and other home improvement stores). You are going to want them to add some black into the primer for you. If it is a...

Gallon: Have them add 3y(amount) of 101(black colorant)

Quart: Have them add 1Y(amount) of 101(black colorant)

This is going to tint the primer to a gray color so it will get you closer to your black color so you apply less coats. Plus it will seal the wood and let the paint adhere better. Apply the primer with a small foam roller and foam brush so you get a nice clean sleek look. Let it dry for an hour. Then paint over it with the American Tradition/Valspar/American Accents black furniture paint. They have the exact paint you need and it will even show a picture on the can of what you are trying to do. I wouldn't do a high gloss because you won't get the look you are going for. Instead I would stick with a satin or semigloss. Apply this also with a foam roller and foam brush. You may need to apply 2 coats/And just so you know you can not put polyurethane or lacquer or anything else on top of this finish! It will yellow and most likely ruin your project. Good Luck!
Most furniture of this type uses lacquer rather than traditional type paints. A coat is applied and then sanded in the areas you mentioned to give that distressed look. Lacquer, in general needs to be sprayed as it is difficult to brush due to drying characteristics. If you want to use traditional paint then I would suggest using a low lustre oil base. Stains could work, but will penetrate the wood fibers, making sanding back down to bare wood more difficult, latex paint doesn't sand very well in this situation as it has a tendency to ';roll'; and will be suspect to peeling on the edges. Also latex is suspect to stick to items you put in the cabinet. Make sure the oil paint is fully cured in order to sand properly for this technique. It may be better to thin the paint a little and build a couple of thin coats. You can put a polyurethane over the top of this to protect the finish. Last, always use a high quality paint, it pays in the end. After the work you go through, the last thing you want is to have to re-do something because you saved a couple of bucks using cheaper material.

Is it safe to paint an original nintendo with an airbrush and the paint used with airbrushes?

I just got an old nintendo and being that it looks like crap I wanted to give it a fresh paint job - I've thought about using Krylon fusion but I don't think I could get close to the original stock colors using that.Is it safe to paint an original nintendo with an airbrush and the paint used with airbrushes?

They have an article on a guy that custom painted one for his girlfriend and also a link to the DIY instructions on how to paint your own Nintendo in a similar way.

Looks like priming and treating the underlying surface is half the battle; the other half is using the correct tools.

You could also check out Instructables.com and see what they have in the DIY section; it's a cool site and some of those people are geniuses!

As for it being safe to do so, if the Nintendo you are going to resurface has collectible value on its own (you referred to it as an ';original'; Nintendo), it is probably not safe to do as you will change its original state.

But, you also said it ';looks like crap';; if it has no value as is, then painting it probably will not matter too much.

What is the best paint to use when painting on paper to be folded?

My cousin wanted me to paint a collapsible paper lantern for Diwali. I would ideally use simple watercolors. But i am worried about a few things

    1. The longevity of the colour

    2. The chipping when collapsed

    3. The vibrance of the colour

Can someone please help me?What is the best paint to use when painting on paper to be folded?

How do I remove paint from solid oak finished baseboards besides the big mess of using paint stripper?

The baseboards have been taken off the walls. The only reason I don't want to mess with paint stripper, is the former owners of the house also painted the door jambs and I don't want to have to replace those, or refinish them while they are still in place. The trim work has/had a nice coat of polyurethane on it, but stripper takes off the paint and poly. Any help or old wives tales will be accepted. How do I remove paint from solid oak finished baseboards besides the big mess of using paint stripper?
