What kind of paint should I use to paint a sideshow banner?

I'm painting a sideshow banner for someone on a 6ft x 4ft canvas and I need to know what kind of paint is best to get the old sideshow banner effect. Does anyone know what paint is typically used for sideshow banners? I know its opaque and very concentrated. HELP!What kind of paint should I use to paint a sideshow banner?

1 Shot Enamel. It's the paint most widely used by sign painters world wide. You get it through sign supply stores. Look them up in the yellow pages phone book. Make sure your banner is primed before lettering it.
Iv done large banners before and I used interior paint. Acrylics are easy to paint with but if you are wprking on a large scale, they are more expensive. Hope this helps. God Bless and Happy Holidays!
Like stated above, Acrylic paint will be your best bet. Acrylic dries quickly, and it shows very vibrant colors. It can also be used to emulate water colors and oil paints.





Oil paints are good as well, but they take a massive amount of time to dry. Also, if it rains, snows, something like that, the paint will chip and bleed.





Water colors would not be a good choice either. They are made to be frilly, translucent, pretty colors, not intense hues wanted for a sign.





Tempera is another paint, but I think it bleeds if wet, and it's rough, dull, and doesnt catch light well.





Acrylic is your best bet.

That dulled effect is from weathering. There is no 'real' banner paint. Use Acrylics.


Put the cloth through a whashcycle when you are done and you will have an original looking dulled banner.
