How can i paint horseshoes for playing horseshoes and keep the paint from coming off?

Everytime we play horseshoes the paint ends up coming off and we have to paint them almost everyday. How can I keep that from happeneing? How can i paint horseshoes for playing horseshoes and keep the paint from coming off?
scrape them down good with steel wool and use a primer paint on them first. Get some good Rustoleum. Then paint them the color you wish, let them dry and put a coat of clear coat on them. Put it on a little thick. Hang them from a string when you paint them. They should be pretty well protected after that. Make sure you use good paint for metal though. Usually rustoleum is the best for that, but usually a good paint guy at Lowes or home depot will tell you which paint to use for metal. You will always get some paint to come off when they are clanking together or getting rubbed in the sand. But this should help. Good luck. How can i paint horseshoes for playing horseshoes and keep the paint from coming off?
Start with a self-etching primer, then paint them.
